In Hungary you can see regions
with a particular atmosphere, fabulous villages, churches
and castles. You are welcome in Budapest, which many consider
to be one of the finest cities of the world. If you are
fond of tasty food, exclusive wines, if you like folk
music and if you are interested in something new and different
from what you have seen before: Hungary is exactly the
place you should visit. You will see that it is no coincidence
that the Hungarians are such well known hosts: they will
be pleased to see you, and even if they do not speak your
language, they will do their best to make you feel at
home. You will experience that Hungarians are original,
profound, passionate and curious, they do not search for,
do not imitate, but play and live their life.
|
|
As
an exchange student at school you will experience Hungarian
language and literature, history, and foreign language
classes of your choice (English, German, French or Russian).
Science, maths and sport are other compulsory subjects.
You will also be able to participate in a wide range of
optional classes and you will most likely have the opportunity
to participate in a school study tour to explore other
parts of the country. Very soon after your move to the
host family you will start school. Most likely you will
be enrolled in a high school (Gimnแzium). Students attend
these for 4 years to pass their "school leaving exams"
(ษretts้gi). Your school may have between 3-500 students.

Leisure
time is often spent at sport clubs, parties, discos or just
spending time together at each other's homes. It is common
that you have maybe 3-5 real close friends - maybe even
less. These friends are important to you and the friendships
often last a lifetime. You can practice most sports in Hungary,
outdoor or indoor sports. Sports are not part of school
or extracurricular activities. You will join a sports club
(or more) for a modest fee and find yourself in a whole
new setting.
|
|
When
you meet your Hungarian host family, you'll probably find
yourself joining a close-knit, stable group who enjoy
talking to each other and doing things together. Hungarian
families value individualism, young people are being made
aware of the importance of independence, responsibility
for their own lives, including school and household duties,
and their trustworthiness.

|
Upon
arrival in Hungary you and all other exchange students
will participate in a combined introduction and language
training camp. You will get accustomed to the Hungarian
ways while making friends with other exchange students.
Because
of the small size of the country, easy and efficient public
transportation YFU-Hungary will offer all students a number
of activities to participate in, some compulsory, some
optional. You will feel part of the group of international
students in Hungary at any given time. You will meet them,
share your joys, new skills and exchange feelings about
the experienc.
